Background

VUEgroup specialise in providing vehicle safety technology to blue light and commercial fleets across Europe.

They offer a free driving app (VUEdrive) to fleet customers which their drivers can download to monitor their driving behaviour. VUEdrive gives drivers a score out of 100 for their Acceleration, Braking, Cornering and Speeding, as well as a star rating out of five for completed trips to show them how well they’ve done overall.

By looking at their scores, drivers can identify exactly how they can improve their behaviour, and take action for higher scores and better safety.

Content

VUEgroup updated the way they calculated their Driving Style Scores on VUEdrive and wanted to publish a whitepaper detailing this process to send to their customers looking to understand these scores.

I had to work closely with VUE’s Data Science Department to understand exactly how these scores were calculated, and translate complex scientific information into simpler concepts that could be understood by VUE’s customers.

VUE also wanted to get across a sense of how important these scores are for improving safety on the roads. So, as part of the introduction in the whitepaper, I included and thoroughly researched road accidents statistics in the UK, putting emphasis on statistics highlighting how poor driving behaviour is the cause of many accidents.

 Results

  • 12-page whitepaper produced that was sent to current and potential customers detailing VUE’s process of calculating Driving Style Scores

  • Great response from customers, with whitepaper significantly lowering the number of enquiries around Driving Style Scores

  • Whitepaper remains fresh and can be used for years to come until VUE changes process of calculating the scores again
